About Dr. Nathan Fitzpatrick (Quantum Chemistry Industry Guest)

Claudia's Photo

Nathan is a lead research scientist at Quantinuum, where he has worked since 2018. He earned his Ph.D. in Quantum Chemistry from Imperial College London, specializing in the unitary group approach to electronic structure theory — a representation-theoretic method in quantum chemistry.

At Quantinuum, his research focuses on the interface of quantum compilation, Hamiltonian simulation, and symmetry operations, aiming to reduce the computational cost of quantum chemistry simulations on quantum computers through advanced symmetry techniques.

Dr. Fitzpatrick has a particular interest in block encoding methods and in developing algorithms grounded in representation theory, such as the quantum Schur transform, which implements Schur–Weyl duality on a quantum computer.
